"Kaka" working hard at his office!
Every great adventurer needs a sidekick, a compadre to make sure he knows when the waterfall is too tall, the cliff too steep, the bear too big, or the waves too angry. For Muchacho Spanky, my family sometimes plays that role, but often, too often for his liking, it is Kristopher Hemstreet. He has accompanied me many times, sometimes unwittingly, into the teeth of danger. Ha! One time I told him we were going to my nephew's baptism and instead we chased off a band of bandits who were robbing trains! He didn't speak to me for one month after that, but he got a great story to tell, no? Oh, yes, I should tell you, he is a writer -- books for children, books for adults, screenplays of all kinds, articles, short stories, all that stuff. I make fun of his writing all the time, but I must say, it is quite good, and that is why I asked him to write a series of family stories based on my adventures. He did a wonderful job on Book #1: The Legend of Muchacho Spanky. As a present for his fine work, I took him kayaking into an uncharted cave system. Heh, heh heh, who knew, the caves were haunted by a pirate's ghost? You think he's pale now? You should have seen him in that cave! I could go on and on, but this is his turn to say something on this website and to make himself feel like a big man, huh. Remind me to tell you about the time I told him I needed his help changing a flat tire on my jeep and instead took him to a volcano... what were the odds of that thing going off right at that time?...pretty good it turns out. Ha! Oh, well, here is what he has to say about himself, wake me up when it's over...

To my family's children, I am "Don Kaka" -- the storyteller. I use my station to inspire them to live grand adventures and always relish a good yarn. I also dig catching rays and working up a proper sweat at the beach in LA's South Bay.
I've written a handsome collection of screenplays and I've got several more solid movie ideas percolating upstairs. I also have a host of published articles and short stories ranging from the political commentary of “Hugo’s Big Red Bubble,” to a light-hearted travel piece called, “How to Let Go in Hermosa Beach.”
My latest tale is a family adventure called, The Legend of Muchacho Spanky. It bloomed over many story times from packed couches to living-room forts to stormy nights under the glow of a flashlight.
I like hiking and exploring wild places, followed closely by reading and writing and some other stuff too.
My favorite books include: Catch-22, Cat’s Cradle, Tarzan of the Apes, Cannery Row, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. As far as movies, I like everything from Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre to The Quiet Man and Harold and Maude. As long as it’s not predictable, I’ll give it a shot. And if it requires words, I’ll write it!
Drop me a line or leave a message with the waitress at Fenner’s if you see something interesting or just want to relate something weird that happened to you. Canned goods are also accepted.
